Mark Syfert, 60, of Kirkland passed away at Alden Park Strathmoor, Rockford on Monday, June, 12, 2017. The son of Ron Syfert and Anna Faye (Bigler) Podgorski, he was born on October, 3, 1956. In 1977, he married his best friend Sandra (Steinway) in Elgin, IL.

For many years, Mark worked proudly as a Machinist and farmer. He was a very active member of the Independent Order of Oddfellows which was “a way of life” for Mark. He also was a member of the NRA. Mark also enjoyed his motor cycle, farming, fishing, hunting, especially target shooting with his good friends. Everyone will miss his vegetable stand that brought joy to many. He is locally famous as the “Pig Man” because of his pig roasts and amazing bar-b-que sauce. Mark was an inspiration to all. Throughout his life he selflessly donated over eight gallons of blood. He was a great family man who enjoyed his grandchildren very much and will be missed by many.

Here to cherish his memory is his wife, Sandra; son, Jason (Lataya) Syfert and daughter, Jodie (James)Toczylowski; mother, Anna Faye Podgorski, grandchildren, Makayla, Makenzie, and Grayson Syfert, Mary, Anna, and Katie Toczylowski; siblings, Lori Owen, Sherry Posch, Shelly Breimer, Robert Garramone, and Ken Garramone.

Preceding him in death is his father, Ron Syfert; grandson, Henry Lucas Toczylowski; paternal grandparents, Homer and Lois Syfert; maternal grandparents, Ken and Mildred Torp, and stepfather, Tom Podgorski.

An Oddfellow service followed by a traditional ceremony celebrating Mark’s life with Mike Breimer officiating, will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Olson-Quiram Kirkland Chapel, 309 S. Fifth St., Kirkland at 7:00 PM. Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM at Olson-Quiram Kirkland Chapel before the service. Memorials can be sent to Independent Order of Oddfellows, Lodge 105, Sycamore. The family would especially like to thank all their friends and family who have rallied around them in support for the last six months. Also heart-felt thanks to the Oddfellows and Rebeka’s.
